The East Midlands Maternal Medicine Network (EMMMN) brings together healthcare professionals from relevant backgrounds with pertinent expertise to coordinate specialist care.
Education and training
Looking after women with medical conditions around the time of pregnancy requires knowledge and experience in often disparate fields of medicine. This is why the overriding philosophy of the EMMMN is:
You can’t know it all, work in teams, phone a friend
Bringing together professionals with complementary expertise, effective communication and clear lines of responsibility is the basis for safe care of patients with complex needs. This holds true when looking after individual patients and for further developing the expertise of the region at large.
To further grow local knowledge and expertise EMMMN is developing a number of approaches to target healthcare professionals from maternity, primary care, medical specialty, and acute & emergency services.
Treat pregnant, recently pregnant, and breastfeeding women the same as a non-pregnant person unless there is a very clear reason not to.”

The emphasis should be on making a diagnosis, not simply excluding a diagnosis”
