Improving services

GP practices, midwifery teams and hospitals across the region already routinely use pathways and guidance to look after women with medical conditions before, during and after pregnancy. The EMMMN is looking to strengthen and support this good practice, further develop local knowledge and skills, support the development of specialist roles for midwives, obstetricians and physicians, and help professionals to connect with relevant teams.

Workshops

One of the important functions of the Network is to bring people together to do just that, network: to meet colleagues, share good practice and learn. In response to training needs analysis and feedback we are planning a series of workshops to grow expertise, aid the ongoing development of services, and build robust regional governance systems.

Proposed topics include:

  • Developing maternal midwifery roles
  • Clinical history taking for midwives
  • Hypertension pathways with home monitoring
  • Measuring quality of care in maternal medicine
  • Patient experience and Patient Reported Outcome Measures PROMs
  • Setting up pre-conception counselling clinics
