Training of obstetric physicians

Obstetric physicians are specialist physicians who work alongside other members of the maternity team to help care for women with complex medical conditions. Their expertise allows them to manage medical conditions in pregnancy and coordinate care when the input from other specialists is needed.

The Royal College of Physicians now offers Credentials In Obstetric Medicine which can be completed at registrar or consultant level. In addition specialist registrars training in Acute Medicine can study obstetric medicine as their specialist skill.

The EMMMN is delighted to support this training. Please contact us if you would like to find out more.

A quote from one of our trainees:

“I’ve just finished my training in Obstetric Medicine.  I have been fortunate to be able to receive most of this regionally within the EMMMN hospital Trusts, with a short placement at GSTT in London. Moving forward I’m excited that Obstetric Medicine training can be delivered wholly in the region, strengthening the network and the care we can deliver for those with medical conditions during pregnancy.”
